Locksmith Authorization Policy

Locksmith Emergency only provides service to customers who are authorized to access the property or vehicle in question.

Our Authorization Requirement

Before performing any security-sensitive work — including lockouts, key programming, rekeying, or lock installation — our technicians may require the customer to provide proof that they are lawfully authorized to access the property or vehicle. This requirement is non-negotiable and applies to all service calls regardless of the circumstances.

What Counts as Acceptable Authorization

  • Residential lockouts: A government-issued photo ID (driver's license or state ID) matching the property address; OR a utility bill, lease agreement, or mortgage statement showing the address.
  • Automotive lockouts / key programming: Vehicle registration or vehicle title in the customer's name; OR a rental agreement from a mobile vehicle rental company; OR a notarized authorization letter from the registered owner.
  • Commercial lockouts: Government-issued ID plus business license, lease, or a letter on company letterhead from building management authorizing access.
  • Lock changes after a move or ownership transfer: Lease, closing disclosure, or deed showing ownership or tenancy rights.

What We Do Not Do

  • We do not provide unauthorized-entry services under any circumstances.
  • We do not accept verbal assurances as the sole authorization for security-sensitive work.
  • We do not perform services at the request of a third party for a property or vehicle they do not own or occupy, unless proper written authorization is provided.

Why We Require Authorization

Authorization checks protect property owners, vehicle owners, and business operators from unauthorized entry. They also protect our technicians from being unknowingly involved in illegal entry. This policy is in line with industry standards and California law governing locksmith practices.

Right to Refuse Service

Locksmith Emergency reserves the right to refuse service if satisfactory authorization cannot be provided, if the situation is inconsistent with the stated request, or if our technician has reason to believe the work is not authorized. No service fee is charged if we refuse service before work begins due to failed authorization.
